Recently, the admin team just went through and looked over every member's level of activity in the league. Unfortunately, activity is pretty low compared to where we want it to be, and we aren't the only ones who have noticed. We've seen multiple members post about how this league can be very dead/quiet at times, members posting suggestions for the sim schedule in order to spark activity, and so on. While every GM will be receiving a personal message highlighting how they are doing in the four requirements of a CSL GM (which can be found here), we felt that it would be be beneficial to give the whole league an update and reiterate what we hope to see for our league.
For starters though, I just want to say that a league is only as strong as it's GMs are. We cannot guarantee the lifespan of our league, as we can do everything in our power to make this league as great as it possibly can be, but if we don't have active GMs, then it doesn't matter. So please keep that in mind as we move forward.
Logging In
Everyone does a good job of signing in frequently. While we have a few members who haven't logged on in a while, almost everyone has been on in the last 48 hours. One of the absences is excused, as Riot let us know in the away thread what is going on for him, but the other users who haven't signed on in a while did not let us know that. That notwithstanding, we are generally pleased with the league in terms of this.
Sim Results
When we originally started looking into the activity of the league, we expected 50% participation in the Sim Results thread. We decided to narrow our search down to since Sim 25, or over the course of the last three weeks or so, and expected people to comment on at least 7 sim results threads. When we realized how few GMs meet that requirement, we lowered it to 33%, or commenting on only 5 out of 14 possible sim results threads. It is not that hard to look at how your team did, and then write a little blurb about the sim. At most, there are two games to write about. 11 out of 28 GMs have met that requirement, and four more fell just one short. We really would like people to start using this more, as it is an easy way to stay involved and show us that you are still interested in your team and the league.
Comment/Participation
More importantly than that, though, is participating and interacting with others in the league. Let's be honest: this is a social thing. If it wasn't social, no one would care about anyone else in the league, or write articles, or anything like that. This league exists to be an outlet, to give us something fun to do and what fun is it if there's no one around to share it with? This league thrives on interaction. However, many people fall short here as well. Since July 26th, 23 days ago, we have only had 10 GMs who have written more than 30 posts, TOTAL. That includes things like depth chart updates, player movement, and sim results. We have 18 GMs who have written 30 posts in 23 days or less, which likely means there are not many comments on articles or other areas of interaction. We have way too many articles that only have 3-6 replies to them, and some of those replies include replies by the article writer themselves. That's simply awful.
Article Writing
Articles are the driving force of this league. If people don't write articles, there's nothing to comment on, nothing to talk about, no reason to interact. We started simming on June 23rd, or just about two months ago now. We set expectations really low for articles: 4 total, with at least 1 being an Insider article. 4 articles in 2 months means simply one every two weeks. While we have a few GMs who are carrying the league (37 of the 103 Insider articles have been written by 3 people, or in other terms, 3 GMs account for 36% of the Insider articles), we have too many GMs (10) who haven't met the requirement.
To put it simply, we have a lot of passengers in this league, people who are far too willing to just let others do all the work and just watch their team play out without any interaction with the league. The main reason leagues like these die out is because of lack of GM interaction. I know everyone here enjoys the CSL and doesn't want to see it go. Do your part and make sure we stay strong.
Like I said before, everyone will be getting a personalized message explaining exactly where they stand right now. While we are not looking to fire anyone just yet (the league is still young and we are understanding of people still finding their way as many are relatively new to these kinds of leagues), we aren't afraid to fire people for inactivity.
If you have any issues or concerns with anything I've said, feel free to comment below or PM me. This league isn't made up of just the admin team, the majority of this league are the GMs. If you feel like we aren't doing enough for you guys, speak up. If you need something else from us to get more activity, let us know. If you feel like we are being too harsh, or not harsh enough, or whatever, say something. We want the league to be the best it can be for you guys, because without you, then we have no reason to be here. So let's keep CSL on the path to being the best league out there.
