If you guys want to keep this close to real NBA, I think we should have the option to hire coaches from other teams to be a head coach.

Too much work for too little result, as you can't hire coaches until after they've been fired, and all it'd do would be to make coach hiring run longer.

How do u propose we do that? Assume that assistants will always want a promotion - what are the options for their current team? Will we end up with a lot of coaches being fired to go after assistants who are under contract with another team?

I don't think it would make it that longer. Maybe a day. I know I am new as well but I think this will make this league top notch.

It's like what the Pacers did when Shaw left to go the Nuggets. They just hired someone to take his place

OK so what if you have a young Assistant 2 that you are developing - you know he is almost there so you will promote him to A1 and then HC during the next few seasons. You have currently decent A1 and HC so there is no rush. Suddenly there are 3 GMs who want him as HC now. The only way for you to match is to fire your A1 and HC and to promote him. So now you are only left with a decent HC and lost A1 and A2. This is just going to be really messy. If you could promote any Assistant to HC then maybe but there is a built in hierarchy in the game that we cannot bypass... I think...

Well I think you have the right to match the offer before it is a done deal. I am talking money wise, not HC or A1 wise. It was just an idea. It came to my yesterday. If you guys don't like it then we don't have to do it. But I still think this is a good idea.

My experience with the game - coach always goes for promotion over money. And btw don't think anyone said its a bad idea but i just can't see it within the limits of the game. I would love to implement it though if i could at least have a basic conversation with my coaches to see where they are career and money wise...

I don't see why we can't do this? There's an option to promote in the game...
Are we allowed to extend coaches in this league as well? This adds another layer of strategy where you keep certain guys in house or hire assistants who should be head coaches on other teams.
Seems more realistic to me.

The main problem I have with this is that there are so many human elements that go into a coach's decision that aren't accounted for in game. There's no way to be able to judge whether the coach would want to make that jump. Would an A1 for the Clippers want to be HC for the Suns?
Remember, money is standardized among our coaches, so the only real incentive for a coach to change is the promotion. I just don't see how we could accurately represent the coach's desire and make realistic moves for this, since it would be up to us and not the AI to determine whether the coach does leave his team and sign with another.

Promoting in house is different than hiring away someone else's assistant though. Yes, you can extend coaches.

I mean Collins left assisting at Duke to head coach my doormat alma mater, Northwestern. I guess I'd be in favor of this.

I just think there are assistant coaches out there that deserve to be a head coach. That's why I brought it up.

I don't think this is something we can do. Sorry.
